Rush Hour Drive

I've incidentally started a project videoing my city driving - it turns out I am really enjoying it and I am inviting you to join me in making it collaborative! I'm happy to do the editing if necessary....

The project: Rush Hour Drive Click this link for my video of Times Square rush hour 4/17/2020

Description: At rush hour, I set up a dash cam (iPhone 11) on my car's dash board and record video through the windshield as I drive through the most typically congested areas of NYC. I edit the footage to cut out red lights and stop signs, I speed the footage up, and I replace the audio with a nice song. The footage airs on www.DreamersWelcome.tv

Benefits: In addition to documenting the city during this period of empty streets and sidewalks, I have also visited many places in my city that I have never gone! Also, it's really fun/strange to drive through places I would otherwise avoid due to traffic. As my copilot, Sarah, said, "it's like 'Sunday driving' every day"

Invitation: Join me by doing the same in your city! I would love to get documentation from major metropolitan areas during rush hour.

Requirements and format :

  • Landscape camera mode - please make sure your camera is on it's side for the widest view possible (NOT portrait mode!)

  • Stationary camera - Rig up your camera so it is stationary (not handheld). My car required me to make a little jig, but you might be able to get away with propping it between the dash and the windshield.

  • Camera angle / composition - Point the camera through the front windshield, looking straight ahead down the street you are driving on. If you have an iPhone 11 or a phone with ultrawide option, please use that setting!

  • Is there more than one location you would like to film? - Great! Send me multiple driving videos and please briefly list areas where you are driving.

  • Editing? - I am happy to edit the footage together!

  • Stay safe! - It goes without say that staying in your car is the safest option for preventing the spread of you-know-what. Also, please keep your eyes on the road! It helps to have a friend from your bubble ride shotgun to keep an eye on the camera so the driver doesn't have to.

Click here when you are ready to upload your footage!
